Mindfulness, the practice of paying non-judgmental attention to the present moment, has become a popular technique employed across a number of disciplines, including healthcare, psychology, and education. Mindfulness has been shown to powerfully influence the ability to manage stressful situations effectively, and promote resiliency.  Because it can improve executive functioning and emotional regulation, mindfulness has also been crediting with improving relationships with students and with improved academic outcomes.

Additionally, the benefits of mindfulness in education have been found to include:

  • increased focus and awareness,

  • increased self regulation,

  • reduced stress,

  • improved impulse control,

  • increased empathy, and

  • health benefits, including fewer sick days.
